I already owned Virtua Tennis 4 for the Xbox 360, but at $4.99 during the July sale, I felt I had to bite on the game. It does use Games for Windows Live, which might be an issue for some, but I have never really had an issue with it. Playing Virtua Tennis 4, the game has several modes, including career, single play, challenges and an online mode. The career is where I planned to spend most of my time, and it is where Virtua Tennis 4 will either be a hit or miss with fans.In the career, you are presented with a large boardgame like grid of events and opportunities, and you gain tickets to move on the board. Using the tickets strategically will allow you to maximize your training, matches and qualifications for big tournaments. However, the tickets are very random, and there are times where the tickets will force you to miss tournaments and matches because you don't have the right ticket values to land on spots.
When you do get to play tennis, the feel of the game on the court is spectacular. I played with a Wireless Xbox 360 gamepad, and the buttons were mapped to the same variations on the Xbox 360 version of the game. For all intent and purpose, this is a repack of the Xbox 360 version, but it plays well and looks good with the higher resolutions available.
If you are looking for a good tennis game on the PC, there are not many to choose from and Virtua Tennis 4 is a good tennis game. While I appreciated the game a bit more in Top Spin 4 on the 360, that game did not come to PC, so Virtua Tennis 4 fits the bill nicely.
