Test the original PDF file in question to verify fonts are correctly showing. If not, you will have to uninstall Adobe X and re-install Adobe Reader 9.x and wait for a fix from Adobe. Reinstall any other Adobe programs that you may use. Problem solved.

It is needed to correctly display a document when an author does not embed the appropriate font into the document. Is it Reader DC or Reader XI? Kindly download the font pack.

Often times, with no verifiable reason, Adobe X will stop reading/displaying/or printing fonts and displaying the error 'Cannot find or create the font '. This appears only to happen after using Adobe's updater program, going from 9.x to Adobe 'X'.

Unfortunately, re-registering Window's Fonts or uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe X does not solve the issue. The only way is to remove ALL Adobe programs (Flash, Reader, Adobe Pro, Updater, etc), run a fresh install of Adobe X, and follow up with any additional Adobe programs (Flash, etc).

1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
2. Remove ANYTHING with 'Adobe' in the name (e.g. Flash, Reader, Adobe CS, etc).
3. Reinstall Adobe X
4. Test the original PDF file in question to verify fonts are correctly showing. If not, you will have to uninstall Adobe X and re-install Adobe Reader 9.x and wait for a fix from Adobe.
5. Reinstall any other Adobe programs that you may use.

Problem solved.

  We've been having TONS of problems with Adobe Reader X. We released it company-wide without doing any real testing (rookie mistake) and it broke an application we use a lot. I had to go around to each workstation and roll every user back to 9.x.

  Michael - I completely agree. Adobe X has been just a disaster. We only have a few hundred stations and deployed to a handful to test and it was just absolutely and insanely horrible. We went back to 9.x as well and I think, unless adobe does some major improvements, we're going to skip 10 all together.

  There is one advantage to having to go around to each station though... You'll never make that same mistake again :)

  I agree, Acrobat Reader X is crap. It is buggy, it is slower and it is buggy. It is known to not work with Equitrac Professional client software v5.3 for print tracking and I wouldn't suggest anyone upgrade to it at all.

  For version 9, Does anyone know how to turn off the auto upgrade feature to version X without disabling incremental updates in the same major version?
